About Soar

Built around dignity, choice, and belonging.

A Pittsburgh-based organization helping young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities live fuller, more self-directed lives.

Who we are

Seeing the whole person.

Soar Support Services is committed to helping young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities live fuller, more self-directed lives in homes provided by Soar and out in the wider community.

We believe meaningful support begins with seeing the whole person: their strengths, preferences, relationships, culture, routines, and hopes for the future. That perspective guides how we partner with individuals and families. Residents live in Soar's homes with support workers present 24 hours a day, while staying connected to the people and places that matter to them.

Our practice is guided by the NADSP Code of Ethics, the nationally recognized standard for Direct Support Professionals:

Person-centered supports Physical & emotional well-being Integrity & responsibility Confidentiality Justice, fairness & equity Respect Relationships Self-determination Advocacy

The Soar approach

Dignity is not an extra. It is the starting point.

Effective support should feel personal, respectful, and consistent. Our approach is grounded in four simple commitments.

Listen

We learn the person’s preferences, strengths, routines, and goals.

Plan together

Individuals, families, and support teams stay connected.

Build confidence

We encourage choice and independence at a comfortable pace.

Keep growing

Support evolves as needs, interests, and ambitions change.

Getting started

A clear path forward.

Finding the right support should feel understandable, not overwhelming.

  1. 1

    Reach out

Tell us a little about the person, their goals, and the kind of support you are exploring.

  2. 2

    Meet & listen

We get to know the individual, answer questions, and talk honestly about fit.

  3. 3

    Shape the support

Together, we outline priorities and create a person-centered way forward.
